When we started working in foster care and with churches in 2014, the state was in crisis due to a lack of foster homes. There were around 8,000 children in care at that time. Though churches have been joining us over the past several years, that number has grown to more than 13,000 children in care. Many of these are sibling groups split up all over the state. About a week ago, I received a call from Gwinnett DFCS requesting us, A FAITH COMMUNITY, to partner with them to help bring awareness of the problem, as well as recruit churches and foster families in the Gwinnett area to assist with the 686 children in Gwinnett County Foster Care (I have attached the email from Cathy Chapman in Resource Development). In partnering with Families 4 Families, Gwinnett DFCS is hosting a pastors’ lunch on
the 1st floor of their new building near the Gwinnett County Court House on Monday, March 19th from 11:30am to 1pm.
Here is what you can do:
- Come and bring any of your staff – we want to show Gwinnett DFCS that churches do care
- Pass this email to any church or pastor who might be interested
- If you can’t come, send a representative from your church
I want the state to know that churches do care and want to be a part of the solution for children by finding loving, godly homes.
